Thomas Gibson Perkins

July 14, 2025

Thomas Gibson Perkins, 79, peacefully passed away at his home in Duck, NC, on July 14, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1946, in Petersburg, VA, to the late John Stanley and Mamie Lee Perkins.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Kirchner Perkins of Duck, NC; his sons, Sean Perkins (wife Erin) and Scott Perkins; and his cherished granddaughters, Brooke and Chelsey, all of Laurel, MD.

A 1969 graduate of the University of Virginia, Tom earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He went on to spend more than 30 years in international and domestic marketing, serving in both the government and private sectors. Known not only as a skilled engineer, Tom was also a talented and respected marketeer. He considered it a blessing to have pursued a fulfilling and meaningful career.

Tom found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He loved boating, fishing, and traveling together—but some of his most peaceful moments were spent at the beach or sitting on his porch, watching the wildlife and taking in the beauty of the Outer Banks. He especially enjoyed teaching his sons how to fish and took great pride in coaching them in various sports and activities throughout their youth.

After retiring to Duck, NC, Tom became active in the community through his involvement with the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (NEST) and the Ships Watch Homeowners Association.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Gallop Funeral Chapel, 6917 South Croatan Highway, Nags Head, NC. A private burial will follow in Petersburg, VA. Expressions of sympathy and a fond memory may be shared with the family at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
