Joseph “Adam” Harmon

Joseph “Adam” Harmon, 44, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 25, 2025, in his favorite chair at his home in the Outer Banks, after courageously facing ongoing health challenges over the past few years. Born on Christmas Day in 1980, Adam brought joy, warmth, and laughter into the world from the very beginning — a gift to everyone who knew him.

Adam was a proud graduate of South Point High School, where he was honored as Homecoming King and made his mark as a star football player. He was more than an athlete — he was a natural leader, beloved by classmates and coaches alike.

A deeply compassionate soul, Adam dedicated his life to helping others — both people and animals. He was a tireless advocate for animals in need, often adopting those with serious medical conditions to ensure they received the love and care they deserved. Equally devoted to people, Adam opened his heart and his home to at-risk youth, mentoring and caring for them as if they were his own.

He also extended his generosity beyond his own community, traveling to the Gulf Coast to help rebuild homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina — a testament to his unwavering desire to lend a hand wherever it was needed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Stacie Gray-Harmon; his sister Kelli (Ryan) Harmon; his brothers Mark (Anna) Harmon and Matthew Harmon; his cherished nieces Madison, Malia, Rylee, Paisley, Paxtyn, Aaliyah, Annabella, Hadley; his great-niece Gracelynn; and his adored nephews Nakyan, Nick, Landyn, Prestyn, and Peyton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Harmon, and his grandparents, Kelly and Rosie Harmon.

Adam’s life was filled with service and connection. He was a proud volunteer with the First Flight Booster Club and enjoyed playing softball through Dare County Parks and Recreation. Whether he was cooking out, walking the beach, or simply spending time with family and friends, Adam made every moment meaningful.

He will be remembered as an amazing friend, devoted brother and uncle, a loving husband and a true good man. Known for his goofiness and unforgettable stories, and the way he could make everyone laugh, Adam was the kind of a person you could always count on – dependable, kind, resilient, and endlessly generous. Though his time with us was far too short, the impact of his love, laughter and legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched,

A celebration of Adam’s life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Gallop Funeral Chapel in Nags Head. Friends and family are invited to gather, remember and share stories in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Adam’s name to the Harmon Fund with the OBX Community Foundation at www.obcf.org/Harmon supporting people battling health issues. All donations will be matched by his sister, Kelli. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
