Frederick Duncan Wright

It is with great sadness that the family of Duncan Wright announces his death on May 19, 2025 at the age of 62. Duncan was born on October 18,1962 in Newport News, Virginia to William and Grace Wright. He graduated from Menchville High School and enlisted in the United States Army.
Duncan moved to the Outer Banks in the mid 80’s and began working for the Town of Nags Head. He then started volunteering with the Nags Head Fire Department. While working as a Paramedic for Dare County, Duncan served as a Town Commissioner as well as the Mayor of Kill Devil Hills in the 90’s. Duncan also started a local chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation which grants terminally ill children the experience of their life time.
Duncan was an entrepreneur and had many businesses he pursued. He had a larger than life personality and enjoyed living life to the fullest by going on many cruises, attending Disneyworld, sitting on his pool deck listening to music, and he loved hosting parties. He is preceded in death by his father, William Wright Jr., his wife, Melissa, and his beloved pet and best friend, Mr. Peanut.
Duncan is survived by his wife, Whitney Wright; his daughter, Lindsey; his four step-children, Hannah, Katherine, Parker and Grace; his mother, Grace Wright; sister, Michelle; and four grandchildren. Duncan never met a stranger and was always ready to help a friend in need. He will be truly missed by so many.
A memorial gathering will be held at Grace Lutheran Church-by-the-Sea, located at 4212 South Croatan Highway, Nags Head, NC, 27959 on June 14, 2025 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the OBX SPCA Dare County Animal Shelter in Duncan’s memory. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.

Duncan was a force of Nature. His outgoing and infectious energy kept things interesting at MHS. Duncan had unwavering abilities to connect to everyone and he will certainly be missed by everyone who knew and appreciated his uniqueness🙏❤️🙏
Grace and all of Duncan's family, I am so sorry for your loss. God be with you at this time of your grief. Anna
Duncan was a great neighbor. He will be missed by many. He came over to our house recently to check on my dad before he passed. My dad was not well enough to see him that day and passed a few days later. Upon hearing this news I thought that surely they were catching up in heaven. Prayers to your family during this difficult time. Sincerest condolences from the Chisholm Family.
Our sincere condolences and prayers will be with you all . Grace, Michelle, Whitney , Lindsey , Hannah, Katherine, Parker and Grace, Duncan could always make us laugh . He was so kind and caring. His Aunt Ilene LOVED his calls to her in Virginia and we know she will always cherish those memories. May God give you the strength and courage to deal with the upcoming difficult days. Love in Christ
I am sad about Duncan's death. I have good memories of our time as children in our neighborhood. I am praying for you who knew and loved him best.
Zeke and I send our condolences. Sending hugs to the family during this troubled time
I am so sorry to learn of his death. He was my absolute favorite EMT while I worked at OBH emergency room in 2009-2011. If u were sad u would smile upon his entrance. Always witty, absolutely funny and caring to those coming in for treatment. I often waved at a wagon thinking maybe Duncan was on another mission. God Bless.
We will miss Duncan. He called my mom up in Virginia weekly until she passed at the age of 100. His calls and visits brighten her life and our appreciation of him could not be greater.
I just saw he passed away. I am so sorry. I know you will miss him
