Susan Spencer Austin
Hatteras – Susan Austin, a classic Outer Banks beauty, aged 86, passed away on July 16, 2024. Born and raised in Ocracoke to parents Sommers and Etta Spencer, she was a beloved mother, wife, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Susan was born on March 1, 1938, in Ocracoke, where she spent her formative years and met the love of her life, Clifton. They married in 1954 and took the ferry over to Hatteras to live out the rest of their lives, married 66 years. But more than anything, Susan was a devoted mother and Granny. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, decorating for holidays and painting her home, shopping, and making everything in her life beautiful.
Susan is survived by her children, Cliff (Beth) and Dawn (Danny), her grandchildren, Heather, Ashley, Austin, Danielle, Morgan, Shelby, and Brianna, her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Alaya, Kyla, and Elwood. She is also survived by her sister, Stella (Edward Carson) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clicky, sister, Margaret, and grandson Hamilton.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 1pm on C. Deering Ridge Road followed by a reception. To express condolences to the family, please visit the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.

I'm so sad to hear of Miss Susie's passing.I met her about 5 years ago and she was a saucy, delightful woman. I looked forward to her visits to the garden center. God bless her and warm wishes and memories to family and friends. Mike
