Stephen Paul Harrell, 66, passed away at his home in Corolla on Monday, June 17, 2024. Steve was born in Norfolk, Va. He is predeceased by his parents, Jim and Marge Harrell of Virginia Beach, Va. His survivors include his lovely wife, Debbie of Corolla, and son, Joey, of Kill Devil Hills. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Dave and Sandy Machesky of Gile, Wisconsin; sister/brother-in-law Cindy and Jim Simmons of Ironwood, Michigan; brother/sister-in-law Jerry and Bobbi Machesky of Aitkin, Minnesota, and four nieces and nephews.
Steve had a very successful career as a professional painter for over 30 years. His perfection of his craft brought him many notable clients as he traveled across the country at the side of his wife, Debbie, in her successful career with the federal government. Anyone who knew Steve also knew of his love of the RAMS. If one were fortunate to visit any of his residences as he and Debbie moved across the country, one will never forget his beloved ‘RAM Room”. He was an avid collector of RAM memorabilia – to include a RAM pick-up. He reminded friends and visitors of his loyalty to the RAMS even when they weren’t winning.
Debbie was the love of Steve’s life. His gruff persona would quickly soften at the sound of Debbie’s voice or name. They enjoyed over 40 years together. Highlights of their marriage was moving to their beautiful home in Corolla and a recent Anniversary Cruise to Canada and New England. This momentous trip resulted in many long-standing memories and epic photos.
Debbie and Steve’s union brought the birth of their greatest accomplishment – their son, Joey. Steve expressed pride in his son for his artistic talent, his desire to learn new things, and his many talented works of art for numerous bands and individuals alike. He supported Joey by purchasing many action figures to decorate his own home. The family has chosen the simplicity of cremation. A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 in Ironwood, Michigan. Condolences may be posted online or mailed to the attention of the Harrell Family in care of Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. 6917 S. Croatan Hwy, Nags Head, NC 27959
Condolences
Love and peace Steve. Debbie and Joey, I cannot say more than I love you.
Debbie our thoughts and prayers are with you and Joey. Please know we are thinking of you.
Steve was always making us laugh with his hilarius antics in High School. He was my brothers best friend and we all played in band together. I am heartbroken for Debbie and Joey and their family and am sending prayers and God's love and comfort.
I am so sorry for your loss. Debbie and Joey, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Babe, I am so devastated and heartbroken. I was not ready for you to leave me. I always knew we had at least 10 more years. You were my person and I am lost without you. To others, you were crusty but for me I saw right through that crusty exterior. I saw your tender heart and you always made sure it was there for me. And likewise, I would give you the world. We had so many great adventures and laughs together. But our greatest adventure was the birth of our amazing son. We did the best we could to raise him right. And I believe I speak for both of us when I say we got it right. Please known Joey will carry on your legacy and continue to make you proud. We love you so much and you will always be with us. Until we meet again, enjoy feeding your new friends Dr. Doolittle!!! I will do my best to carry on your tradition. I love you immensely and I will always miss you. You were my person. Love you always babe. -me
