Randle Douglass

June 4, 2014

Colington – Randle Douglass, 84, loving husband, father of eight and grandfather of 13, passed away peacefully in his home June 4th, surrounded by family members.  Randle was known for his irreverent sense of humor, love of sailing, ability to embrace life, and engineering leadership in the missile defense industry.

Randy was Lockheed’s Chief Engineer for the first exoatmospheric non-nuclear missile intercept of an incoming ICBM.  This successful missile intercept directly influenced the reduction of nuclear arms during the Reagan administration.

Though Randy had a very successful professional career, his true passion was sailing.  He spent his leisure time taking his family of six, including their dog, on a 24′ sailboat during weekends and holidays.  This included trips to the San Juan Islands, Southern California, and the S.F. Delta.

His greatest achievement was cruising the world with the love of his life, Sharon.  They traveled in a 36′ ketch, SARACEN, and their journey lasted twelve years.

His wife, Sharon Douglass; children Jim, Ken, Julie, and Dan; stepchildren Laura, Pam, Paul, and Jill; 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, survive him.

The family will hold a private memorial service and scattering ceremony at the Colington Yacht Club at a later date.  A special thank you goes to CYC for dedicating the June 4th sailboat race to Randy Douglas.  His life will be celebrated by many.

Condolences to the family may be expressed via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com . Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
