Michael J. Howe

Salvo- Michael J. Howe, 64, died Thursday morning, April 25. Mike was a resident of Salvo for many years and also Warren, PA. He was born June 6, 1948 in Rochester, PA to the late William J. and Mary Grace Howe. Mike was a teacher for 30 years in the Warren (PA) County School District. After graduating from Penn State University, Mike served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, son Josh Fiscus (Laura) and his granddaughter Madison all of Salvo, NC. He is also survived by sisters Virginia (Robert) Vekasy of Columbus, GA, Carole (Bill Budacki) Price of New Brighton, PA, Kathryn Caputo of Marietta, GA; brothers Richard (Betsy) Freedom, PA and Edward (Bonnie) Freedom, PA; 14 nieces and nephews and 22 grand nieces and nephews. Mike and Jeannette were the proud owners of the Blue Whale convenience store in Salvo, NC. Mike was well known throughout the Tri-Village component of Cape Hatteras and will be missed by the many residents and OBX vacationers who he has faithfully served over the years.

A celebration of Mike’s life will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 at the Salvo, NC Fire Department, Edward Howe, officiating.
