Gary David Mahaffee Jr.
Gary Mahaffee Jr. – On this date, December 17, 2012, Gary David Mahaffee Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior. “Dave”, as he was known to all who knew and loved him, was born on October 8, 1976 in Cumberland, Maryland . He was the son of Gary Mahaffee, Sr. and Cheri Mahaffee of Kitty Hawk, and the grandson of the late, Steve Koch, and the late Anita and Clyde Mahaffee.
An accomplished artist and musician, Dave recently made an impact on the national music scene through his local bands- the Mudd Flapp Mafia and This Too Shall Burn. Dave was well known in several local music venues and played frequently at Long Boards, Art’s Place, and Chili Peppers among others. Dave’s amazingly diverse art talents ranged from fantasy to portraits, to seascapes, to still life, and tattoo design. Dave was employed in the local landscaping industry for many years while creating his art and music.
Besides his loving parents Gary and Cheri; Dave is survived by his daughter, Cassiddy Marlene; and Cassiddy’s mother, Nikki Arko both of Kill Devil Hills; two sisters Colleen Melvin of Nags Head and Jill Whiteman and her husband Tony of Short Gap, West Virginia; two nieces Sarah and Lauren Whiteman; one nephew Brett Whiteman all of Short Gap; his maternal grandmother; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members, and a host of cherished friends and music fans.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a future date. The family gratefully suggests that memorial donations in Dave’s memory be made to the Cassiddy Mahaffee Scholarship Fund care of Southern Bank in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
