Lassie Hicks Bingham

Kill Devil Hills- Lassie Hicks Bingham, 96 joined her heavenly family Friday February 27,2015 in Nags Head.  She was born March 11, 1918 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Helen Hoover Hicks and Wannie Hicks.  She was predeceased by her husband David Bingham; her sisters Lessie Terry, Rubie Chenail, and Little Baby Billie and her brother, Lloyd Hicks.

During World War II, Lassie was employed as a crane operator in the Newport News Shipyard. Eventually she retired from the Shipyard to become a full-time grandmother. The last ten years, Lassie has resided in Kill Devil Hills enjoying time with her daughter, granddaughters, and great- grandchildren.  Lassie loved Blue Grass music, playing the fiddle, dancing, gardening, cooking and baking.

Left to cherish Lassie’s memory is her daughter, Pat Rawls (John) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, three granddaughters; Amy (Scott) Dodson of Easton, MD, Edith Rowe, of Duck, NC and Michael Rowe of Southern Shores, Gwyneth (Chris) Vermeulen also of Kill Devil Hills, four great-grandchildren; Winston Rowe, Elliot Rowe, Parker Dodson, and  Adelia Vermeulen; two special nephews and two special nieces and a host of extended family members.

The family extends special thanks to Stephanie, Susan, and Julie of Dare County Social Services, and the drivers of Dare County Home Delivered Meals.

The funeral service will be held at the Gallop Funeral Services Chapel MP 16 in Nags Head, Monday March  2, 2015 at 3 pm. The burial will be private at Peninsula Memorial Park. Donations in Lassie’s memory may be made to the Dare County Home Delivered meals.
