Kevin James Cologgi

Powell’s Point – Kevin James Cologgi, born November 13, 1953, left to meet his Lord and Savior July 30, 2014 at his home. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Mel Cologgi.

Kevin was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. After completing high school, he began training in the plumbing trade. Kevin eventually built a career as a professional plumber. Locally, Kevin worked for several companies- most recently for Ballard’s Plumbing.

During his younger years, from the early 1960’s to 1997, Kevin became well known as one of the “keepers” of the Avalon Pier bulkhead. As a Friend of Bill W for many years, Kevin used his passion to found The Powell’s Point ABC Group. He was willing to lend a hand to all he considered friends and carried his experience, strength, and hope to all who wanted it. He will be missed by all he touched, especially through his meetings.

Kevin Cologgi leaves behind his lifetime partner of 15 years, Charlene Rae Dail of the Powell’s Point residence; one daughter Rhiannon Torres (Roberto) of Florida; one step-son, Pete Salitore (Kristen) of Kitty Hawk; two brothers, Joe Cologgi of Knoxville, Tenn. and Gary Cologgi (Darlene) also of Powell’s Point; one sister Marsha Thompson (Jeff) of Kitty Hawk, NC; three grandchildren; five nephews; one niece; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.

The family will hold a memorial celebration of Kevin’s life at 3:30 pm Sunday August 3, 2014 at Cologgi Lake 292 N. Spot Road in Powell’s Point. Friends may gather immediately following.
