Judith ten Hove Engelken

Southern Shores – Judith ten Hove Engelken, 60 years old residing in Southern Shores, North Carolina, formerly of Ridgewood, New Jersey passed away on Tuesday, February 25 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after her long battle with lung cancer came to an end.

Judy was born on August 24, 1953 in Ridgewood to her mother Jean ten Hove and father Jacob ten Hove. Judy attended the Ridgewood school system graduating from Ridgewood High School in 1971. She met her husband, Blair Engelken, in Westwood, New Jersey in March of 1978 and they celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary this past December.

An avid gardener and a master cook, Judy was a talented homemaker and world-class mother to her three children. Judy was an active community member serving on parent-teacher associations of Ridgewood and the Chicahauk homeowners association in Southern Shores. She worked as a sales manager at Backyard Living in Ridgewood and Nursery Associate at Rohsler’s in Allendale, New Jersey. Judy and Blair had a love for the beach and ocean. They are filled with wonderful memories of many summer vacations in Cape May, New Jersey and Outer Banks, North Carolina.

Judy was survived by her husband and three children Molly Jean (31) of Southern Shores, Joshua Simpson (29) of Charlotte, and Kyle William (28) of Williamsburg, Virginia. As well as grandson, Clayton Ferreira (3) of Southern Shores. Also, her father Jacob ten Hove of Mureitta, California and brother, Jaco ten Hove of Bainbridge Island, Washington.

She was pre-deceased by her mother, Jean ten Hove and brother, John (Jay) ten Hove. Judy’s memorial Service will be held March 8th at 4:30pm at All Saints Episcopal Church Southern Shores. Interment will be part of the service and at the All Saints Columbarium. Judy has requested that anyone attending the memorial service not wear black. The family is extremely grateful to all the wonderful medical professionals involved in her care. Donations to the Dare County Hospice or Dare County EMS are appreciated.
