John W. Elliott III
Southern Shores – John W. Elliott III, 82, of Southern Shores, NC (formerly of East Greenbush, NY) was called to his heavenly home on December 23, 2014 after a brief illness.
“Jack” is survived by his beloved wife, Martha, his daughters, Susan Edelman (Michael) and Dawn Elliott (Chris Balestrini); and one grand-daughter, Elizabeth Edelman of Philadelphia, PA. Also surviving is his sister, Elizabeth Elliott of Kirkland, WA; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Paul Marie and Dyke Starnes of Raleigh, NC; his nephew, Wayne Starnes (Lisa) of Concord, NC; two nieces, Angela Snapp (Bill) of Watkinsville, GA and Wendy Williams of Kirkland, WA; and five great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Jack served in the United States Navy in the 1950’s aboard the aircraft carrier “Coral Sea”. He was a graduate of Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and later earned his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For over 37 years he was employed as a textile engineer at Albany International, of Albany, NY. He held many positions of responsibility with them, allowing him to travel internationally and to live and work for extended periods in Canada, Australia, England and Brazil.
Jack retired to the Outer Banks in 1991 where he enjoyed sailing his boat the “Sea Tiger” and all things related to the beach. He loved the Southern Shores Community and endeavored to keep it a serene place to live through many years of service working on the Architectural Review Board.
He was a faithful member of Duck United Methodist Church where he led Bible studies and disciple groups. His wise and loving counsel will be missed by his many friends and family.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Duck Methodist Church, December 28, 2014 at 2 pm. Pastor John Tyson will officiate.
