George A. Read

Southern Shores- George A. Read, 87, of Southern Shores, moved on from his earthly existence on September 25, 2015, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marada (Lea) Adams Read. The couple met in college while attending a formal dance hosted by Columbia University.

George graduated from Admiral Farragut Military Academy. He earned a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University. George worked until retirement for the DuPont Company. He spent his many years of retirement happily fishing the piers and surf along the Outer Banks.

George is also survived by his children: Deborah A. Shiley and her husband Jack, Stephen G. Read and his wife Lynne, and Robert C. Read; his grandchildren: Shannon Racey, Brian Racey, Michael Read and his wife Nami, Lauren Read, Sarah Read Sicinski and her husband George, Andrew Read, and Daniel Read; and one great grandchild (Michael and Nami) due March, 2016.

The urn burial will be private. Flowers are welcome at the Southern Shores residence.
