Ernest Franklin “Ernie” Weller

Southern Shores- Mr. Ernest Franklin “Ernie” Weller of Southern Shores, NC died surrounded by his family in Chesapeake, VA on July 27, 2015 at the age of 73.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Weller (nee Meteer) of Southern Shores, NC; his daughter, Jessica Kartel and her husband, Brian Kartel; his son, Daniel Weller and his wife, Janet Ely Weller; his sisters, Joan Hendrickson and Marie Scully; his brother, Charles Edward Weller; and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon S. Weller, Sr. and Fanny Clarke Weller; and his brother, Vernon S. Weller, Jr., all of Baltimore, MD.

Ernie was born on August 25, 1941 in Baltimore, MD. After serving in the U.S. Army, he turned down several offers from Major League Baseball clubs to begin a career in the shipping and transportation industries. He received a degree in Business Administration from Newbury Junior College in Boston, MA. After many years as an entrepreneur, he retired to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to pursue his golf career.

At his request, a round of golf and a celebration of his life are planned for a later date. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ernie. Details will be forthcoming.
