Helen S. Chessick

Manteo– Helen S. Chessick, 92, succumbed to a brief illness in Nags Head Wednesday February 16, 2011. Helen was the wife of the late Edward L. Chessick, Sr. and she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Gorka. Helen was also preceded in death by four brothers; Bennie Gorka, Anthony Gorka, Frank Gorka, and Walter Gorka.

Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey Helen completed her high school studies and devoted her life to family and God. She took pride in mastering the traditional domestic arts of the time and created a warm and loving home for her husband and son. In later years, Helen entered the candy business and was employed by Rita’s Confectionary- which she dearly loved.

Helen Chessick is survived by her son Edward L. Chessick, Jr. and wife Marianne of Manteo; one grandson Brian E. Chessick and wife Heather of Moyock; two adored great-grandchildren Conner Chessick and Brianna Chessick also of Moyock; and numerous extended family members and dear, long time friends.

Friends may call at the Manteo residence and Monday evening February 21, 2011 at Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home in Union, New Jersey. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:15 AM Tuesday February 21, 2011 at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church. Internment at Hollywood Memorial Park, will follow the mass.
