William “David” Barnes, Jr.
Kill Devil Hills- William “David” Barnes, Jr., 59, resident of the Outer Banks, NC, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 due to advanced lung cancer. Born on August 14, 1951 to Mary Williams and William D. Barnes, Sr., he was the middle child of three children. With one older sister, Betsy, and one younger sister, Janie, he enjoyed a childhood as an all-star baseball player and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America. As a teenager, David toured Europe with a group of high school classmates. He was also recognized by the Governor of NC at his high school graduation for his extraordinary test scores.
He grew up to marry Cynthia Hamm Barnes. He is survived by two sisters, Betsy Barnes Pierce and Janie Barnes MacIntyre with respective nieces and nephews. He is survived also by three children, Ashley Smith and husband Adam Smith, Jennifer Barnes, and Samuel Barnes, and one grandchild who brightened his last days, Elaena Marie. He became affiliated with the Catholic Church and found a renewal of his faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his latter years, which his family is very thankful for.
The memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, NC, on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 4:00 pm. The family is accepting donations c/o Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. 6917 S. Croatan Highway Nags Head, NC 27959 252-449-8695 to help cover final expenses. Thank you to all those who made our Daddy’s last days comfortable and loving. He is in a better place now. God bless you all.
