Frederick W. Arnold
Frederick W. Arnold, lovingly known as “Fred,” entered his Father’s eternal care on December 3, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia. He was 78 years old. A true warrior, Fred was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend. He cared deeply about those he loved which included many friends and family members including his many fur babies. Throughout his life he was known as a leader and a big man with a larger-than-life personality.
A native of Long Island, New York, Fred was born in Huntington and raised by his parents in Northport, NY. Both of his parents have preceded him in death.
Fred began his military career at a very young age, joining the Army in 1964. In 1967, he served in Vietnam as a member of the Army’s Special Forces unit. His distinguished service included time with Delta Force before being assigned to Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRPs).
Following his military service, Fred met and married his soulmate, Arline Arnold, originally from Commack, Long Island. Together, they have a daughter, Donna Arnold. During the 1970s, Fred pursued a career as a commercial carpenter. He completed a three-year apprenticeship program and was inducted into the carpenters union.
In addition to his work as a carpenter, Fred was also an owner of racehorses that competed at Aqueduct and Belmont Race Tracks.
Fred is survived by his devoted soulmate, Arline Arnold, of their Southern Shores home. He is also survived by his daughter, Donna Arnold, and son-in-law, John Hsu. Fred leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Rebecca and Hannah Hsu. His memory is also honored by a host of other family members, friends, neighbors, and his beloved All Saints Church family.
In accordance with Fred’s wishes, he was cremated. The memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church Saturday January 10, 2026 at 11 am. Instead of flowers, Arline gratefully suggests that memorial donations in Fred’s memory be made directly to All Saints Episcopal Church.
Gallop Funeral Services in Nags Head has been entrusted with the arrangements. Friends and loved ones are invited to share expressions of sympathy with the family, read the full obituary, and check for service details at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.

One of a kind doesn’t begin to cover Freddy. His absence will be felt. They broke the mold when they made him. And we are all better for the time we spent with him. Condolences.
Dear Arlene and family, I was playing bridge at Sarah's when I heard that Fred was in the hospital and not expected to recover. I am so sorry that he is gone from this earth, but believe that things will be looking up for him and all of you soon. With love, Pat H.
Dear Arline, I was sorry to read of Fred’s passing. I enjoyed the times I had talking with him and especially enjoyed his sense of humor. I hope all your happy memories together will bring you comfort. With deepest sympathy and love, Clare
