I will always remember the day she and Di took me on a sight-seeing tour of OBX and as a finish to the busy day, we stopped at a restaurant on the water that she liked and Lynn and I happily sat at the table peeling and eating our shrimp. I am very glad I had the opportunity to spend time with her and Di. My condolences to Di.

Lynn Patterson

November 20, 2025

Lynn Patterson of Nags Head, NC passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. It is an unforgiving disease that became a battle too strong for even Lynn to endure. She is survived by her wife of 33 years, Diane Sutorus. She was preceded in death by her parents Nancy and William Patterson.

Lynn had a love of life that reached beyond her untimely death. She left the world surrounded by loved ones and friends who will continue to honor her legacy. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Parma High School in 1979. After a year of college at Akron University Lynn decided to enter the construction field. She worked for Local 33 Sheetmetal Workers in Cleveland for more than 25 years before retiring.

Saturdays you would always find her loudly and enthusiastically cheering on her favorite teams, especially Ohio State Buckeyes and NC State Women’s Basketball teams. She loved baking bread and biscotti, making fresh salsas and soups from her garden vegetables, and canning delicious blueberry preserves and apple butter.

Lynn was passionate about her fur babies, Golden Retrievers Merlin and Savannah, Goldie her kitty, and anything “Snoopy.”   After moving to the OBX, she immediately became involved in giving back to her new community. She volunteered for N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles) since 2011. She was active in nesting response, nest parenting, and ATV patrol.

A volunteer at the Theater of Dare, she used her construction skills to build stage sets and scenery for many productions. She was always a patron of the arts.  Mostly she loved spending time with Di and friends, fishing, hiking, doing puzzles, playing cards, helping out wherever needed, and making us smile.

Lynn’s preference for cremation will be honored. A celebration of Lynn’s life will be planned at future date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her honor be sent to N.E.S.T., P.O. Box 1073, Kitty Hawk, NC or to Theatre of Dare, 3848 N. Croatan Hwy, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.

Gone from our sight but not from our hearts.
