      Amy Rebecca Goodman

      May 5, 2026

Amy Rebecca Goodman, of Hatteras, was born September 23, 1974, and left this world on May 4, 2026, at home surrounded by family, after a stubborn fight with cancer. In true Amy fashion, she fought hard, cracked jokes through the chaos, and probably had notes about how everyone else could’ve done things better.

She is survived by her parents, Patricia Peele and Gene Goodman; her sister Jennifer Goodman Scarborough (I.G.); her uncle Michael Peele (Claudia); and her sisters-in-spirit, Amy Peele Hamann (Nick) and Amie Pannuty — along with a wide circle of friends, and honorary family members.

Amy was a builder, fixer, cook, photographer, skater, and professional smartass with an unmatched wit and a personality too big to fit into any one job title. If something was broken, she could probably fix it. If it couldn’t be fixed, she’d at least have a sarcastic comment about whoever designed it in the first place.

Her career path was as colorful as she was — from EMS work in Ocracoke to cooking at country clubs in Oak Island. She collected friends everywhere she went and left stories behind that are probably still getting retold — some of them barely appropriate. Amy loved cooking for people, taking photographs, and skating with her Derby Girls, where her toughness, humor, and refusal to back down fit right in. She had a huge spirit, and laugh, with the rare ability to make people feel both loved and thoroughly roasted at the same time.

The family will host Amy’s celebration of life in September. The date and location will be announced in the future. In honor of Amy, attendees are encouraged to bring good stories, questionable jokes, and perhaps a tool kit — because she’d probably still have opinions about how things should be set up. Memorial donations made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation in Amy’s honor, are greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers. Please share a word of love and sympathy with the family on-line at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.

        OUR HISTORY

The Nags Head Chapel and Company Headquarters

        Nags Head Chapel

Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was founded in Nags Head, NC in 2006 by licensed North Carolina Funeral Director Courtney N. Gallop. This independent, minority and woman-owned start-up funeral home challenged the existing monopoly firm which had sole control of all funeral care, goods, and services provided in Manteo, the Outer Banks, and Currituck County for nearly 100 years.

Finally - someone brought competition into the local funeral industry. As a direct result of Gallop Funeral Services, Inc., local families now have choices, options, alternatives, fairer pricing, flexibility, and a higher level of service in funeral care for their loved ones.

The Barco Memorial Chapel - Currituck

        Barco Chapel

In 2016, Gallop Memorial Chapel was opened in Barco, NC. The spacious, newly remodeled facility is the first and only funeral service-related business ever to locate in Currituck County. The Barco Gallop Memorial Chapel is conveniently located near the Outer Banks, Moyock and Elizabeth City. The elegant yet relaxing chapel interior is welcoming and comfortable for viewings, family gatherings, funerals, and memorial services. Our Barco chapel is perfectly equipped to serve all faiths and families in the county.

Courtney Gallop and the staff at Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. are committed to excellence. We continue to improve, grow, invest, and learn in order to provide the highest level of service for all families entrusted to our care.

        Capital Crematory

        Capital Crematory

In 2011, we built and established Capital Crematory, the first and only crematory ever in Dare County. The crematory supports Gallop Funeral Services and also provides professional cremation services for other funeral homes in the Albemarle area. Having our own local crematory means your loved one's cremation will be handled personally by owners of the funeral home, 100% locally, quickly, and at the best pricing.
