Susan Kowalski
Southern Shores – Susan Kowalski, age 64, passed away on October 13, 2011, at her home in Southern Shores, North Carolina. Susan was born in Irvington, New Jersey on January 29, 1947. She married George A. Kowalski on January 25, 1969 and they had a devoted marriage of 42 years.
Susan resided for many years in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she was employed as the Executive Staff Assistant to the Vice President of Vassar College.
In 2002, Susan moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She was active in her community as a member of the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department and the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Susan drew special strength from her friends in the Christian Breast Cancer Support Group.
Susan is survived by her husband George and by their son and daughter in law, Stephen and Tulani Kowalski and their children, Marek and Malia, of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by her sister, Judith B. Wallins, and her husband Roger of Moscow, Idaho and her brother, George P. Beach II of Hurley, New York and her sister in law, Deborah P. Beach, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Susan inspired others with her grace, dignity, and courage. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to do so, may make a donation to the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church or Community Home Care and Hospice of Engelhard, North Carolina.
The memorial service will be held at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church Saturday October 22, 2011 at 11:00 am. The urn burial will follow immediately at Southern Shores Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. Alan Swartz will officiate. Friends may gather at the church following the burial and at other times at the family residence.
