Roberta Frances Drudge Wilson

Kill Devil Hills – Roberta Frances Drudge Wilson, 87, died peacefully April 2, at her home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Born and raised in King and Queen County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Roberta Ashley Drudge. She married her life long love, Rob Roy Wilson, who died in 1981, on Easter, 1946. She was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters — Eucelia D. Leber, Harvey Drudge, Grace D. Williams, and Purnell Drudge.  She was a telephone operator in Gloucester, Va. during World War II and recalled receiving and relaying telegrams and information to families during the war and the switchboard “lighting up” at the end.  Strong in her Christian faith, she dedicated several years to teaching the third grade Sunday School Class and working in vacation Bible School at West Point United Methodist Church.  Family was her highest earthly priority and she was a true confident and friend to many. She is survived by her only child, Temple Wilson Heggie and husband, Tom; grandsons, Ben Heggie and wife, Kate, and Ashley Heggie and wife, Jennifer; two great grandchildren, Ella Beth and River Wilson Heggie; an “adopted daughter”, her neighbor, Melissa Moore; and nieces and nephews, especially her youngest sister’s youngest son, Dean Williams.

The Reverend Teresa Holloway will officiate at her memorial service at Colington United Methodist Church in Kill Devil Hills, Tuesday, April 7, at 4pm and The Reverend David Torrence will officiate graveside, Wednesday, April 8, at 2pm, at Lower King and Queen Baptist Church in Virginia.
