Oscar Berry, Sr.

Manteo- Oscar Berry, Sr. went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2009 at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC after a long illness. He was the son of the late Maxie Berry, Sr. and Arounia Berry. He is preceded in death by his six brothers, Zion Hall Berry, Lindbergh Berry, Maxi M. Berry, Jr., Maloyd Berry, Sr., Wallace Berry, and Donald Berry and one sister Arounia Berry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Vivian G. Berry, son, Oscar Berry, Jr., and daughter Lisa Berry Bryant (Alonza), all of Manteo, NC. He leaves three grandchildren, Jason Berry (Evelyn), Natalie Arzu-Rochez (Sebastian) both of Manteo, NC, and Vivian L. Berry (Theodore Hall) of Barco, NC. He leaves nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. He also leaves to mourn his two sisters Angenora White of Rocky Mount, NC and Cora Thompson (Benjamin) of Somerville, NJ.

The funeral will be held at Free Grace Disciples of Christ Church in Manteo Monday November 2, 2009 at two O’clock in the afternoon. A visitation will be held in church one hour prior. Free Grace Pastor Carrie G. Holmes will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Free Grace Church Cemetery.
