Marcella Josephine Koester

Kill Devil Hills – Marcella Josephine Koester or the “the flower lady” as she was known by her family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.  She was 89.  Marcella was born on July 14, 1924 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Marcella married her soul mate of nearly 50 years, Justy Koester, Sr.  Together they raised their family.  After retiring from Western Electric in 1985, Justy and Marcella relocated to the Outer Banks where they treasured their peace, serenity, and happy family times.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mae Summers; husband, Justy Koester, Sr.; one sister, Wanda Connolly and one brother, Raymond Summers.

Left to cherish Marcella’s memory are her children: two sons; Clyde R. Stout and wife Barbara Jean of Ohio, Justius C. Koester, Jr. of Kentucky and two daughters; Suzan Lynn Koester of Kill Devil Hills and Esther A. Hartman and husband Alfred of Florida.  Eight beloved grandchildren including Marcy Barrow (Brad), Liz Askew (Jonathan) and Charles Koester (Melissa).  Fifteen great- grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

Viewings will be held at Gallop Funeral Services chapel Sunday, April 27 from 1 to 3 pm and from 6 to 8 pm.  A graveside funeral service will be held 11am, Monday, April 28 at Southern Shores Cemetery.
