Lydia B. Hemker

Lydia B. Hemker of Point Harbor, NC entered into eternal rest Friday, October 12, 2007 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.  She was 76. The daughter of the late Alois and Maria Hödel, Lydia was born May 30, 1931 in Riedenberg, Germany.

Leaving her homeland with her new husband, Leo and Lydia raised their three sons together in Ohio. Lydia loved to shop with friends and travel.  She had visited all fifty states and traveled abroad as well.  Lydia also loved flowers and was recognized for her gardening skills. Lydia and Leo faithfully attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, and sang together in the parish choir.

Lydia Hemker will be greatly missed and tenderly remembered by all who knew her, and especially by Leo, her husband of more than fifty years. In addition to her beloved husband, Leo Anthony Hemker, left to cherish the memory of Lydia B. Hemker are her sons, Colonel Michael Leo (Ann) Hemker of Ansbach, Germany, and Steven Richard Hemker of Sarasota, Florida; three sisters, Inge Helfrich and Jullitta Stephan both of  Riedenberg, Germany, and Ilse Herbig of Oberbach, Germany; three grandchildren, Mary Francis Hemker of San Antonio, TX, Kristin Marie Hemker, and Kevin Joseph Hemker of Ansbach, Germany and a host of extended family and friends, near and far.

A memorial Mass celebrating her life is set for Wednesday October 17, at 10 O’clock in the morning at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk.  Father Joseph Klaus will be the celebrant.  A funeral Mass is tentatively scheduled for October 19 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, Ohio,  followed immediately by a burial service at Resurrection Cemetery. Lydia will be buried next to her son, Thomas Anthony Hemker, who preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes to Lydia Hemker be made to Knights of Columbus LAMB Program c/o Holy Redeemer Church, 301 West Kitty Hawk Road, Kitty Hawk NC 27949.  Condolences to the family may be sent via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted to serve the Hemker family.
