Jeffery Quinn Sumerlin

Jeffery Quinn Sumerlin, 57, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on January 22, 2025.  Jeff was born on May 31, 1967, in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Dodsworth & Lettie J. Sumerlin. In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his brother Ronald D. Sumerlin and step son-in-law Asher W. Richeson. He is survived by his longtime partner and fiancé Laura Griffin; his daughter Kristin Sumerlin of Elm City, NC; his brother Danny L. Sumerlin (Karen) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his stepdaughter Tammi N. Richeson of Kill Devil Hills, NC and three grandchildren, Amarah S. Richeson, Harper J. Richeson & Ryder W. Richeson; two nieces; two nephews; one great-niece and two great-nephews;  his beloved cat, PeeDee Styles.

Jeff graduated from Enfield Academy in 1986 and East Carolina University in 1991.  After graduating from college, he worked alongside his father at the family business, Sumerlin Travel Center, known to locals as the Mobil Station. Following his career in the family business, he became a Hearing Specialist working with those in need throughout Eastern NC and Virginia. While working at Kellogg Supply Company and Kempsville Building Materials, Jeff developed many long standing friendships and business relationships with local contractors across the Outer Banks as he provided them with quality customer service.

Those that loved and knew Jeff will forever remember the love for his family, friends, the passion he had for fishing, our military, music and sports, especially ECU football. Jeff’s gentle nature, willingness to go above and beyond will be truly missed by everyone he touched. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
