James Thomas Graham

Southern Shores-Long-time Southern Shores resident James Thomas Graham succumbed to a brief illness in Elizabeth City Wednesday July 24, 2013. Jim was born in Ohio August 24, 1924. He was the son of the late Richard C. and Florence Graham.

Jim served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII as a pilot in the Pacific Theater. Following his military service, Jim completed schooling in mechanical engineering and embarked on a successful career in the United States automotive industry. Jim was directly involved in the development of numerous automotive related innovations over the years. After retiring to Southern Shores, Jim enjoyed golf, sailing, and recreational flying. Jim was also a member of St. Andrews By the Sea Episcopal Church and loved devoting time to his family.

Surviving Jim Graham is his loyal life partner, Barbara Taylor of Kitty Hawk; two sons, James Graham of Michigan and Douglas Graham of Washington State; one grandson, Dugan; and his nephew, Paul Graham of California; his St. Andrews church family; several extended family members and special neighbors and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday August 2, 2013 at 2 pm at the St. Andrews Chapel in Nags Head. The Reverend Phillip Glick will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully suggests that donations in memory of Jim Graham be made to the American Heart Association.
