Harry James Coder
Kitty Hawk- Harry James Coder or “Skip” as he was known to family and friends, died unexpectedly in Nags Head Saturday February 26, 2011. Skip was born in Salamanca, New York. He was the son of the late Francis Herbert Coder and Margaret Walsh.
After completing high school, Skip enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Using medical skills learned in the military, Skip completed his RN Nursing degree at Union University and embarked on a long successful career as nurse at Elvis Presley Medical Center in Memphis, Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, and Regional Medical in Kitty Hawk. Most recently, Skip was a valued nurse in the Outer Banks Hospital emergency department.
Left to cherish the memory of Skip are his two brothers Michael and wife Mincie Smith Coder of Kitty Hawk and David Arant of Texas; his sisters, Frances Evans, of Grandy, Patty Hall, and Margaret Well, both of Texas, five nephews, Andy, Dusty, Colby, Remington, and Shane, and two nieces, Chloe and Chanda. Skip is also survived by his friend, Michael Shilby of Kill Devil Hills.
A celebration of Skip’s life will be held Thursday March 3, 2011 at 7 PM at the Gallop Funeral Services Chapel MP 16 in Nags Head. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes be forwarded to the Outer Banks SPCA Family and friends may gather at the home of Skip’s brother’s in-laws- Sammy and Jackie Smith in Kitty Hawk.
