Charles Cleophas Lanning

Kill Devil Hills- Charles Cleophas Lanning passed away Thursday October 8, 2013 in Norfolk surrounded by his family after brief illness. He was predeceased by his father Charles Hillard “Jake” Lanning, his mother Mary Frances Lanning, and his brother Albert Lenora “Lee” Lanning.

Charles graduated from Granby High School and served his country bravely in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.

He is survived by his sister Shirley Griffin and husband Bun of Kill Devil Hills; his brother, Virgil Wayne Lanning and wife Toni of Southern Shores; his brother Terry Booth of Jarvisburg; his sister, Sherrie Manns and husband, Darren of Chester, Va.; a sister- in- law Michelle Ponzillo also of Southern Shores and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

There will be a viewing, Monday October 14th, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at the Gallop Funeral Services Chapel in Nags Head. The funeral with military honors will be held graveside at the Virginia State Veteran’s Cemetery in Suffolk Virginia Tuesday October 15th, 2013 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Charles Lanning’s honor may be made to ocean View Baptist Church at 904 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
