William Robert Hudgins, Jr.

November 2, 2024

Our Dad, Papa, Great PaPa, Great-Great Papa, and brother, William Robert Hudgins, Jr., 86, entered Heaven early on the morning of Nov 2, 2024. Robert was born January 22, 1938. One could type forever about his wonderful attributes. He loved Jesus so much. This was obvious by his overt friendliness and love towards everyone. He got so much pleasure out of visiting people and teaching the elderly at nursing homes, being the song leader at church, teaching Sunday School, and hauling his grandkids around on Christmas eve to sing to people in the Great Bridge, VA community.  He was not a selfish man, but always put others first (unless it was concerning ice cream… you’ll have to get your own bowl).

Robert worked so hard for his family. Such a true, All-American patriot and middle-class worker. He loved driving those 18-wheelers; probably because he got to talk to people everywhere he went. We used to tease him about becoming a Wal-Mart greeter because he NEVER MET A STRANGER. And whenever any of his children and (especially) grandchildren were with him, he would introduce us to people and proceed to ramble off all the “things” we were doing in life. He was so proud of his children and all of the grands. Never any doubt that he loved them all. Our family is so fortunate to have had him in our lives. He leaves a Christian legacy that all of his family will forever remember. And one day we’ll reunite with him in Heaven.

Robert is pre-deceased by his wife of 49 yrs, Rose Jeanette Hudgins; his mother, Mary Frances Snead Smith; Father, Willie Robert Hudgins, Sr. and his sister, Hazel Elaine Hudgins Maculewich.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, William R. “Bobby” Hudgins, III (Diane), Gary Louis Hudgins (Glenda), Katrina Ruth Williams, and Joy Denise Scott; his brothers, Kenneth James “Jimmy” Hudgins (Linda), and Harry Dan Hudgins (Brenda).  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Robert’s funeral will be held at 11am on Thursday, Nov 7 2024, at Currituck Bible Baptist Church in Grandy, NC. A visitation and viewing will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow at Laurel Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited back to the church, for fellowship and light, finger foods. Please leave a message of hope at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
