William “Bill” Merritt Sallinger

April 6, 2025

William “Bill” Merritt Sallinger, age 64, of Rodanthe, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday April 6, 2025 in Nags Head, NC.  Born March 11, 1961, Bill spent his early years growing up in Chesapeake, Virginia, and Salvo, North Carolina.

Bill dedicated many years to his work as a skilled plumber and pipefitter. However, his true passion ignited when he took the stage with the Rockfish River Band. As a vibrant performer, Bill often known as “Wild Bill” in this element, and the band cultivated a loyal following that enthusiastically supported their appearances at every honky-tonk in town.

Later in life, Bill found solace and joy in the rural landscapes of Nelson County, Virginia where he lived with his companion, Donna Adams. He cherished the tranquility and natural beauty of the area.  Eventually, Bill returned to the Outer Banks, settling in Rodanthe and once again serving the community as the local plumber. The stage continued to call to him, and by night, “Wild Bill” entertained crowds at the Hot Tuna sharing his musical talents.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Merritt “Sal” Sallinger, his mother, Naomi Sallinger, and his brother, Austin “Scooter” Sallinger. He will be deeply missed and his preference for cremation will be honored.  As he directed, there are no plans for services. Please share expressions of sympathy with the family at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
