Will C. Drake
Will C. Drake was born November 27, 1925 to the late, John Robert Drake and the late, Nancy Hudson Drake of Starkville, Mississippi. Will C. Drake was a resident of the Currituck House Assisted Living facility in Currituck, North Carolina when he heard the voice of God and peacefully answered his call in his sleep, he went on to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2015. Will C. Drake was the husband of the late Annie O. Drake and father of the late William C. Drake, Jr.
In his early years, he was educated in the public school system and later attended Mary Holmes Junior College in Starkville, Mississippi. He joined the US Navy at an early age. During his travel, after finishing his tour of duty, he met the love of his life, Annie O. Meekins Drake. Mr. Drake was employed for over 20 plus years with the National Park Service where he retired. He was very dedicated and involved in his community. He served as a bus driver for Dare County School System, and as an employee of the Dare County Maintenance Department.
He was a member of Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served for a number of years. He was active within the church, singing with the Male Choir and later acquired the position of Deacon Chairman. To list a few of his contributions, Drake and the late, Mr. Randolph Ebron built the baptismal pool, parking lot, and the handicap ramp here at Haven Creek Baptist Church. However, his best accomplishment was being a loving and devoted husband, father, protector, and provider for his family.
His legacy stretches far beyond his achievements. It surpasses greatness, defines determination, conquers fears, and raises the bar of manhood. The essence of Drake encompasses strength, power, authority, and above all, his most precious characteristic, being a straight shooter. The torch is now raised and rest on the shoulders of his surviving children, James Drake and Patricia of Maryland, Lamarvin Drake and Donna of Maryland, Annie Drake-Cooper and David of Maryland (who renamed him “Captain Bly”), Barbara Selby of N.C., Leon Drake and Sandra of Georgia, Henry Drake and Toni of N.C., Timothy Drake and Dawn of Georgia, and Tony Drake and Kathy of N.C.
