  1. My Dearest Friend, Confidant and Work Partner…. So proud to know and love Her for 8 fast years. You will always be a Force of Nature that I carry within my Heart. I will cherish every memory of our times together, and will miss the calls and texts, and your voice. Love you to the Moon and Back, be at Peace.

  2. I have the pleasure of owning a pup bred by Lucky & Durwood ( that I adore) and it was in this capacity that I got to know her. I would see Lucky at HD and the Duck PO. Always pleasant and knowledgeable, very helpful whether it was breed questions or product availability. I wish I had more time to get to know her better.
    She will be missed!

  3. Simply the best!!! Best friend, best neighbor, best doggie mom and a person one could always depend on!! Our hearts are broken. Rest In Peace Lucky!

  6. My friend, fellow Head Cashier and Steelers fan. I will miss you- your witty personality and great sense of humor. I thought it appropriate that March 23 was National Puppy Day, right up your ally! Last year when our Yorkiepoo was having puppies, I was frantic because I didn’t know if everything was going as it should be. I called you and you talked me through what to do to help her. All 4 puppies were fine thanks to you!
    RIP, my friend ❤️

  7. Sherri will be missed by many. She was a fun person to be around and always there to help when needed.

  8. Sherri was one determined hard worker. Nobody will ever fill her shoes. I was so lucky to have worked with her at HD. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
    Joanne

  9. Lucky had a very bold and strong spirit. She was my grandmothers best friend and confidant. Every summer I would run across the street just to visit with lucky and the yorkies. Most nights were spent on their porch waiting for Durwood to untangle my fishing reels. I wish I didn’t take those nights for granted. She always made me feel welcome and safe. I know she’s with her yorkies right now and that makes me smile.

  10. Such a loss for all her family, friends & the community! This picture shows Lucky as I’ll always remember her….with that beautiful smile!! Rest In Peace friend! 🙏😄

  11. Durwood and family – we are so sorry for your loss. Sherri was such a wonderful woman with an infectious smile. She will be missed by all of us who knew her.

  12. I worked with Sherri at Home Depot. She was always talking about her Yorkies and her daughters! The doggies are so adorable and Sherri was a joy to work with. Condolences to the family.

  13. I just heard of Sherri’s passing and am in total shock! Many of the Yorkies on this island came from Sherri’s family. This is how we met her and all the My Grace Yorkies. Sherri was always happy to reunite with our 2 Yorkies, Sassy & Precious, and they remembered her. Wagging tails and trying to escape the cart to get to her in Home Depot. We will never forget her smile, wit, and love for animals. We will be celebrating her life with the family through the many memories. Rest In Peace our friend.

Sherri Lee Smith

March 23, 2022

Southern Shores- Sherri Lee Smith or “Lucky” as many knew her; passed away in Greenville, NC on March 23, 2022 at the age of 59. Lucky was born in Blairsville, PA but considered Southern Shores home since moving to the Outer Banks 2007.

Although she worked at the Kitty Hawk Home Depot store- Sherri eventually started two small businesses- Old Nag Supply and My Grace Yorkies. She enjoyed the challenges of being a businesswoman.

Lucky is survived by her husband, W. Durwood Smith of the Southern Shores home; two daughters; Tristin Harper (Adam) of Coral, PA; and Lisa Molinari (Francis) of Jamestown, RI; her son, William D. Smith, III (Jacqueline) of Seattle, WA; and her brother, Craig Allen and one sister, Lynn Beck both of Pennsylvania. Sherri is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and close friends both here and in Pennsylvania.

The family is honoring Sherri’s choice for cremation and no services are planned. The family asks that anyone wishing to honor Lucky, consider making a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society or your local animal shelter.
