Nicholas Longworth Meekins, II

Manteo- Nicholas Longworth Meekins, II exchanged this mortal life for glory on Monday November 17, 2008.  Born September 30, 1935, Nick as he was known to family and friends, was the youngest of eight children born to the late Theodore Roservelt Meekins Sr. and the late Lelia Odessa Meekins of Manteo. Besides his parents Nick was preceded in death by his four siblings William, Maggie, James Milford, and Annie.

 

Nick received his education in the Manteo, NC public schools. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. As a young entrepreneur, he was the proprietor of “Nicks House of Joy.” He furthered his ambitions by investing in real estate and using his strong business skills, became the owner of “Karat Limousine Service” which served the outer banks and surrounding cities. Nick was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Temple #230.  He joined Haven Creek Baptist Church at a young age.

Nick leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Linda Baynes Meekins; five sons; Donald Meekins and wife Josie of Manteo, Patrick Meekins of Charlotte, Nicholas Meekins, Jr., Christopher Meekins, and Timothy Meekins, all of Richmond, VA; five daughters, Thelma Meekins Owens and husband Jesse of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Thomasina Burton, Kathy Meekins Allan and husband Joseph all of Richmond, Wilma Meekins Williams and husband Tim, and Gloria Meekins Greene of Geenville, SC; three step-children Renese Holly Flowers, L’Tanya Murray, and Bernard J. Baynes all of Manteo, one godson, Douglas Baum of Princeton, NJ; one brother, Theodore Roservelt Meekins of Harbinger, two sisters, Wilma Keys and husband Lenwood of Washington, DC, Ossie Dunston of Manteo; one aunt, Mary Skinner of Elizabeth City, one brother-in-law William C. Drake of Manteo, 24 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The funeral will be held at noon, Saturday November 22, 2008 at Haven Creek Baptist Church in Manteo.  A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 am. The Reverend Virgile M. Wilder will officiate and the eulogist will be Reverend Dr. Charles W. Young.  Interment will follow the service at Haven Creek Cemetery.
