Julie Rae Walker
Memorial Service Update:
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at 2 p.m., at Poor Richard’s, 305 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo, NC.
Julie “Jules” Rae Walker unexpectedly left this world on Friday, November 5, 2021, in her sleep, at her home in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, of natural causes. Julie was born on July 20, 1970 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. (Bet you didn’t know she was a Yankee!) Julie graduated from Varina High School in 1988 and then graduated from Johnson and Wales University with an associate degree in Culinary Arts. She cooked in many fine restaurants, but the pinnacle of her cooking career was being 1/3 owner/operator of the now defunct Route 64 Café in Manteo, North Carolina.
Julie was an avid softball player (catcher) until “the ole knees” refused to cooperate. She then switched to bowling. A highlight of many of her years was an annual trip to Nevada to participate in a bowling tournament. She also enjoyed watching football. She was probably the last Dallas Cowboys super fan! Julie was funny, kind, caring and generous. She never met a stranger, and she brightened the lives of so many. Family was everything to Julie, and if you knew Julie, you were family.
Left to cherish memory are her parents, Bobby and Jene Walker of Richmond, Virginia; her sister, Lorie Walker and Lorie’s husband Gary Meeks; niece, Teagan Meeks; great nephew, Mason Meeks-Greene, all of Creswell, North Carolina; and her niece, Neyla Meeks (who is growing Julie’s second great nephew Braxton Wade Lacasse) of Belhaven, North Carolina. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, her long-time best friend and housemate Bonnie DiGiovonni, and her “extra” family The Petersens.
The family requests that in lieu of floral donation, please consider making a donation to your local pet shelter or planting a tree in her memory. There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at 2 p.m., at Poor Richard’s, 305 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo, NC. Expressions of sympathy and comfort are welcome, via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc was entrusted with arrangements.

Julie was my very first “best friend” (she was 9 and I was 11), then Lorie and I became besties. I was in between in age so I played with both all the time! I think of her all the time and riding our bikes, skateboarding, and playing kickball or freeze tag. She was amazing then too! I loved her dearly and wanted to share my best memories of her.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. She sure will be missed. I bowled with her for years. She was so funny and up beat all the time even when you had a bad day. There was that light she always gave she made your day better. RIP my friend.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Julie’s passing…. What a sweet person and kind soul. My heartfelt sympathies are with her friends and family.
Julie will be sorely missed by our staff, owners and associated vendors. Julie had a smile that lit up the room and an infectious laugh.
Julie (and Lorie) have been like a sister to me for decades. I have some wonderful stories and memories that I will cherish forever, and I will miss her telling her humorous versions of some of them. I spent a big part of my life singing and playing guitar on the OBX and I credit that to Julie. She offered me my first 'Solo' gig there at the café. This resulted in me relocating to the Outer Banks to perform for the majority of my life. Therefore, meeting her made my life better, and knowing her was a blessing. My heart goes out to (my best friend) Lorie and Gary, Bobby and Jene as it's so hard to lose a child, as well as Teagan and Neyla, Aunt Juju's girls. I will miss you Julie, my kind, funny, friend and sister in heart...
This is so sad, Julie was a great friend and an outstanding person to work with here at Joe Lamb. Her passing came as a shock and she will really be missed.
Lorie, I am so sorry to hear fo Jules passing. She was such a great person and I have thought of her and you often. I will always remember that great smile she had. My prayers for you, Gary and the kids during this difficult time.
I am so sorry to hear of Julie’s passing. Julie always had a smile on her face. She was a “glass half full” kind of person and brightened up any room she entered. She was at the center of all our band trip shenanigans. Such a loss. Prayers to her family and friends that were like family.🙏🏼
I will always remember Julie's infectious laugh and ever present smile. A new bright star shines in heaven now. My deepest sympathies to her family.
