Jacqueline “Jackie” Saunders

Wanchese – Jacqueline “Jackie” Saunders, 74, of Wanchese passed away on March 18, 2014 in Nags Head. She was a Dare County native born in Nags Head, NC August 4, 1939. She is predeceased by her parents Marcus and Nellie Johnson.

Jackie enjoyed a lifelong career in the restaurant business that spanned the United States. She hostessed, served, cooked, and managed throughout her career. Jackie was loved by customers and coworkers alike. After her retirement, Jackie fished commercially with family members for many years, along the Outer Banks.

Jackie is survived by her new husband Gus Saunders of the Wanchese residence; three sons , Robert “Rocky” Marshburn, III of Tyner, NC; Tony Lee Marshburn of Kinston, NC; and Keith R. Marshburn of Chesapeake, VA. Also surviving are the Saunders children Simona, Buggy, Nicky, Terry, and Gaston all of the Outer Banks; and many good friends and neighbors.

The committal of the urn and a graveside service will be held April 12, 2014 at 1 pm at Nag Head Woods Cemetery. Memorial donations in Jackie’s honor to assist with the cost of her grave marker would be gratefully welcomed by the family c/o Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. 6917 S.
