Fred Louis Duregger

Fred Louis Duregger, 94, of Kitty Hawk, NC passed away June 24, 2008.  Fred was born April 11, 1914 on a farm near Stanhope, IA to Edward and Alice Hoffman Duregger, the third child in a family of 13 brothers and sisters.  He married Helen Spilman September 20, 1935.  They lived in Clear Lake, IA most of their lives until moving to Newport News, VA in 1985 and later to Kitty Hawk, NC in 2006 to be close to family.   He was a retired sales manager for Broadbent Distributing, Des Moines, IA. He was co-owner with his brother Virgil, of Duregger Brothers Welding in Clear Lake for several years.  In their early marriage, he worked for Perkins Dairy in Clear Lake.   Fred was an avid gardener, woodworker, and master mechanic. He served for many years on the church council of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.    He was formerly a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Newport News, VA and currently a member of Grace Lutheran Church By-The-Sea, Nags Head, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen Spilman Duregger, two sons, Richard Duregger and his wife Carolyn of Kitty Hawk, NC,  and Terry Duregger and his wife Sandy of Mesa, AZ.; four grandchildren, Susan Brittan and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, VA, Joel Duregger and wife Julie of Newport News, VA, Dan Duregger and wife Carolyn of Mesa, AZ, and Darcy Boggs and husband Jeremy of Tempe, AZ; seven great grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Brittan, Megan, Ryan, and Grace Duregger, Dylan Duregger and Gavin Boggs; two sisters, Helen Sorensen and Irene Sorenson, and two brothers,  Edward (Junior) Duregger Jr., and Larry Borum.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mary Avery, Ida Mae Hill, Gladys Henn, and brothers Albert, Virgil, Bob, and Leo (Buddy) Duregger.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date by The Reverend Albert C. Isler at Grace Lutheran Church By-The-Sea, Nags Head, NC.   Memorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church By-The-Sea, P.O.
