Frances Sheehan Fountain

Kill Devil Hills-Frances Sheehan FountainKill Devil Hills-Frances Sheehan Fountain, died on Friday, January 25, 2013 surrounded by her family, at her home in Kill Devil Hills. Fran was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. George A. Sheehan of Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of New York. Shortly afterward Fran married Robert F. Fountain, III, deceased. Fran was a dedicated mother and wife, raising seven children while living in Seaford, Delaware; Martinsville, Virginia; Camden, South Carolina; Wilmington, Delaware; and Waynesboro, Virginia. Fran was a hospice volunteer in Waynesboro and in Kill Devil Hills. Fran retired with Bob in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina in 1987. Fran and Bob were members of Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Parish of Kitty Hawk, NC.

In her retirement years, she was known by all as GranFran and she opened her bay home to everyone. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed many visits from her friends near and far, and from her family of sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Fran will be remembered for her compassion towards others. Fran had a gift for making everyone feel they were the most important person in the room. We will miss her dearly.

Fran leaves seven children and eleven grandchildren – Flossie Harvie and husband Bill of Columbia, SC, their daughter Liz and husband Todd Britton, and son Chris; Geof and wife Linda of Aiken, SC, and their daughters Julia and Jenny; Chris of Staunton, VA; Laura Holmes and husband Rob of Southern Shores, NC, and their daughter Claire, son Will, and daughter Monica; Kathy Tabb and husband Jeff of Norfolk, VA, and their son Joel, daughter Laura, and son Robert; David of Mesa, Arizona, and his son Breandan Gibbons and Breandon’s mother Mary Gibbons of Dunkirk, NY; and Tricia Wilkinson and husband Michael, of Nags Head, NC. Fran leaves Sister Mary Sheehan, r.s.c.j., sister Elizabeth Sheehan; brother Michael Sheehan and his wife Ellen; sister-in-law Sandra Schock and husband Bud, brother-in-law Rodney Ross and wife Shelley, eighty-one nieces and nephews, extended family members, and very treasured friends. Fran was predeceased by nine siblings – George, Arline Hopkins, Joan Kelly, James, Jack, Anne Murphy, Skip, Honey Holsey, and Margie Mullin, and sisters-in-law Susan O’Brien and Jane Hale. Fran also leaves a special sixty year relationship with the Konstanzer family.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, February 2nd from 5 to 7 pm at the Gallop Funeral Chapel MP 16 in Nags Head. A funeral service will be held at Holy Redeemer by the Sea on Monday, February 4th at 10 am.
