Florence Burnham

Kill Devil Hills- Florence Burnham , 93,  passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday March 29,2015. Florence was born on September 21, 1921 in Grafton, Mass. It was there that she married and raised her children.

 She moved to Manteo, NC in the late 70’s, to begin life anew after the sudden loss of her beloved husband. A long time resident of Roanoke Island, she accomplished many great things. She was a volunteer for Outer Banks Hotline Manteo Thrift Shop  for 20 years. She was a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks. She also volunteered for a few years at Roanoke Island Festival Park. She enjoyed being an active member of the Baum Center in its earlier years, she was an amazing cook, gardener, seamstress and quilter among other things. She survived late stage Melanoma over ten years prior, as well.

 Florence is preceded in death by her husband Fred Burnham and her son Paul Burnham, both of Massachusetts. She is survived by her daughter Winnie Clem and husband Ray Gallant of W. Boylston Massachusetts and by two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

 A memorial service will be held Friday, April 3rd at 4 pm at the Unitarian Universalists Congregation of the Outer Banks, 831 Herbert Perry Rd, Kitty Hawk. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
